ANGEL : A Hierarchical State Synchronization Middleware for Mobile Ad-hoc Group Gaming

چکیده
In pervasive computing environment, mobile ad-hoc group gaming will become one of the signficant entertainment applications. Mobile ad-hoc group gaming is where players form their wireless local network and play network games using wireless heterogeneous devices. In network games, it is important to synchronize game states among players appropriatly for keeping entartaining interactivity. However, in the pervasive environment, it is difficult due to the highly variable network latency and wireless packet loss caused by mobility and wireless characteristics. In this paper, we propose a middleware for mobile ad-hoc group gaming called Architecture for Network Games utilizing Eligible Leaders (ANGEL). ANGEL supports to exchange game messages synchronizing each player’s game state. ANGEL hierarchizes game players’ nodes based on their packet loss ratio and network latency, and selects the most appropriate route for exchanging game messages. We have implemented a proto-type of ANGEL on Linux. We show that ANGEL improves packet loss ratio of the paths among gaming nodes at about a second, and the overhead of ANGEL on the network is 12.5 %. By using ANGEL, we demonstrate to maintain interactivity of mobile ad-hoc group gaming.

Middleware for Synchronous Group Communication in Wireless Ad Hoc Networks
In this paper, we propose a Java-based middleware for group communication in wireless ad hoc networks. The proposed middleware provides facilities for establishing multiway synchronization channels among multiple agents (processes executed in mobile hosts) based on their locations. Through multi-way synchronization channels, agents can execute events on the same channel synchronously to exchang...
متن کاملRelying on Safe Distance to Achieve Strong Partitionable Group Membership in Ad Hoc Networks
The design of ad hoc mobile applications often requires the availability of a consistent view of the application state among the participating hosts. Such views are important because they simplify both the programming and verification tasks. We argue that preventing the occurrence of unannounced disconnection is essential to constructing and maintaining a consistent view in the ad hoc mobile en...
متن کاملA Middleware Service for Secure Group Communication in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks
Secure group communication in mobile ad hoc networks is often dynamic and impromptu, and thus requires efficient and automated secure group management and seamless combination of secure groups with distributed applications running upon them. Existing approaches to secure group communication cannot satisfy these requirements. In this paper, an automated secure group management approach is presen...
متن کاملIntuitionistic fuzzy logic for adaptive energy efficient routing in mobile ad-hoc networks
In recent years, mobile ad-hoc networks have been used widely due to advances in wireless technology. These networks are formed in any environment that is needed without a fixed infrastructure or centralized management. Mobile ad-hoc networks have some characteristics and advantages such as wireless medium access, multi-hop routing, low cost development, dynamic topology and etc. In these netwo...
متن کاملVector-Field Consistency for Ad-Hoc Gaming
Developing distributed multiplayer games for ad-hoc networks is challenging. Consistency of the replicated shared state is hard to ensure at a low cost. Current consistency models and middleware systems lack the required adaptability and efficiency when applied to ad-hoc gaming. Hence, developing such robust applications is still a daunting task. We propose i) Vector-Field Consistency (VFC), a ...
